Here's how we strive to improve and protect our environment:
1. Have a bathroom with a shower and lockers for a commuter-friendly workplace.
2. Use not just recyclable shopping bags, but compostable ones made from corn.
3. Recycle old bike tubes, but recently Jeff took it a step further and
made a deal with Creamery Tire (the best guys around!) to recycle your old
tires along with their old car tires. Yes, there's a fee, but if you don't look too
closely at your Bikesport service receipt, you won't even notice it.
4. Our trash company takes our cardboard, plastic, glass, cans and office paper.
5. Scrap metal - we're now able to get a little cash for all those spare frames and metal parts
that are unfixable - Jeff dropped off what we had at Phoenixville Scrap Yard and got $19
which helps pay for the gas required to get there and the time spent sorting it.
6. Our lightbulbs and ballists are being replaced by smarter ones that are not harmful in landfills.
7. Several of the staff are commuting to work more than 4 times a week!
8. The Bikesport car gets 39 mpg - the best we could find. Look for it around town and at bike races.
We also use it to provide SAG on bike tours.
9. Pedals for Progress - you probably know we do the annual bicycle collection for this organization
that ships your "no longer needed" bikes to other countries where they have NO other means of
transportation. I just got a letter from them asking for money to help ship the bikes. If you can,
send them something - go to www.p4p.org. Our next collection is Sunday, Nov. 23rd.
10. We are the newest member of Bicycle Benefits (www.bicyclebenefits.org) - which means we
reward bicyclists who come to Bikesport by bike! What a great idea - hope
others catch on.
11. Paperless Payroll. Bikesport employees log on to a website to view their paystubs - and everyone
is on direct deposit.
12. Faxes waste paper. We shut off the fax machine cause we don't want all those menus and fantastic
travel deals!! We'll turn it on if we have to send something.
