Comfort and Commuter

Comfort

These accessories will make your ride more comfortable, therefore making riding more enjoyable in general.

  • Padded cycling shorts provide not only a comfortable pad, but moisture-wicking properties keep you dry and chafe-free .
  • Gloves protect your hands if you take a spill, keep your hands from getting numb, and provide a terrycloth outer layer for wiping sweat off your face, preventing your hands from slipping off the handlebar when you sweat.
  • Cycling jerseys dry easily, keeping you cool in summer and dry and warm in cool weather.  They have back pockets for holding your extra stuff like a powerbar, keys, cell phone, etc.
  • Cycling shoes  --whether you opt to get shoes that have a cleat and attach to your pedals or just want a more comfortable foot on a standard pedal, cycling shoes are recommended for riding because their ultra stiff soles help transfer energy directly to your pedal stroke and alleviates "hot spots" or discomfort when riding.  Worn with cycling socks, you'll keep your feet dry as well.

Commuter

Being aware of your surroundings and fellow riders is important whether you're on the road or the trail.  These accessories allow you to sense your surroundings without putting yourself in danger.

  • Bells  allow you to let other cyclists or trail users know when you're coming up behind them.  A friendly remark also helps, like saying firmly, "On your left," cautions other trail users (like cyclists, joggers, dog walkers, or even equestrians) know that you'll be going around them on the trail or the road.
  • Mirrors attach either to the handlebar, your helmet, or even your eyewear.  A mirror can let you know when another cyclist or a car is coming upon you.
  • Locks are always a great idea.  You can never be too safe.. even if you're just stopping at a convenience store for more water, it's always a good idea to lock up your bike.
